    Movie Review: “Fantastic Planet” (1973)

    Episode 1

Our first episode! Giant blue aliens, weird animation … and no, it’s not Avatar. It’s an animated film released back in 1973 from a team French and Czech production companies.

[three_fourth] The animated film Fantastic Planet (French: La Planète sauvage, Czech: Divoká planeta), released in 1973 and directed by René Laloux, is an allegorical tale set in the far future on another world. Scripted by Laloux and Roland Topor based on the 1957 novel Oms en série by French writer Stefan Wul, the film was an international co-production between companies from France and Czechoslovakia. It was first released on May 11, 1973, at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

The Criterion Collection version, which we viewed, is availalbe on Amazon.
